2021 Scholarship Program

Thanks to the generosity of some of the ROSACon2020 guest speakers, who donated their speaker fees for scholarships, ROSA will be offering five scholarships in 2021.

These scholarships are available to ROSA members, and are valued at R2,500 each, which the successful recipients can use to attend ROSA events.

The closing date for applications is Tuesday 22 December 2020. Please ensure that you read all the Terms & Conditions before applying for a scholarship.

Terms & Conditions

  1. In 2021, five scholarships will be awarded, each to the value of R2,500. The scholarship is not in the form of cash, rather a value allocation to the ROSA member to cover the cost of any ROSA educational services the member wishes to make use of.

  2. The scholarship funds may be spent on ROSA membership, entry into ROSA contests, ROSA webinars or workshops, or attendance at local chapter events / the Cape Retreat / annual conference. The scholarship funds may not be used for attendance at purely social events.

  3. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age on the date of application.

  4. Applicants must be ROSA members. If the applicant has not yet joined due to financial constraints, then the first compulsory disbursement from the recipient’s scholarship amount will be the cost of the membership fee.

  5. Applicants are required to submit a one-page motivation letter detailing what they have achieved in their writing career so far, what they hope to achieve during 2021, as well as a motivation for why they need financial assistance.

  6. Beneficiaries of the 2020 Scholarship Program will not be eligible to apply again in 2021.

  7. The closing date for entries is Tuesday 22nd December 2020. Successful applicants will be notified within a few days to enable them to enter the 2021 Strelitzia contest (deadline 31st December) if they wish.

  8. In 2021, the scholarships will be available to both published and unpublished members of ROSA.

  9. The applicant must abide by ROSA’s Code of Conduct. Should an applicant be found to be in breach of the Code of Conduct, then the remainder of the scholarship amount will be forfeited.

  10. Successful recipients of the scholarship program will be expected to submit a written quarterly update on their writing progress, to ensure that all participants in the program are making effective use of the scholarship.

  11. Any scholarship funds not used by the applicant before 31st December 2021 will be forfeited by the applicant, and will be returned to ROSA for use in the 2022 Scholarship Program.

ROSA reserves the right to disqualify applicants who do not comply with these Terms & Conditions.
