ROSACon 2019

ROSA is delighted to announce a new venue for its 2019 conference. The Quatermain Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg is bigger than our past venues, allowing the conference to accommodate even more writers, while still offering a backdrop to the conference that is intimate and full of character.

The conference takes place on the weekend of Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd September 2019, with the gala dinner and awards ceremony at the same venue on the evening of Saturday 21st September.

ROSACon 2019 Program

The 2019 Committee has put together a 2-day program that is bigger and better than ever before, packed full of sessions for writers at every stage of their careers. There will be interactive writing workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers, covering topics including writing craft and book marketing, with a particular focus this year on writing as a career and business.

Guest Speakers

The 2019 keynote speaker is Whitney Ross, literary agent at the prestigious Irene Goodman Literary Agency in New York. We are honoured to have Whitney as a speaker, and she will also be taking pitches during the conference.

The presentation of the Imbali and Strelitzia awards will take place at the dinner. The cost for dinner is R355 per person.

Conference Fees

ROSA is offering three scholarship places to delegates who would not otherwise be able to attend the ROSA conference.

To apply for a scholarship place, or to nominate someone else, please email a one page motivation letter to before the end August 2019. Scholarship winners will be contacted in the first week of September.

The scholarship covers only conference attendance, goodie bag and meals. Transport, accommodation and the gala dinner are not included, so if you are not Johannesburg-based, you will need to arrange your own travel and accommodation.

Conference delegates can enter the Black & White scene contest to win a gorgeous prize hamper. Entries should be no more than 2,000 words long, in either English or Afrikaans, on the theme of Black & White.

Let your imagination fly!
