Watching my neighbour’s kitten attack her German shepherd dog got me thinking about cats, which of course lead to one of my favourite characters in Shrek … Puss, in boots – which of course got me in a complete swoon ….. Antonio Banderas.
Now there’s a man! And that accent – oh my goodness a woman could do crazy things for an accent like that. Just close your eyes and imagine that voice whispering softly in your ear. No on second thoughts, don’t imagine that – you’ll never get anything else done today!
José Antonio Domínguez Banderas. Obviously onefd of the best things to come out of Spain. Ever!
Born in Málaga on the 10th of August 1960 - and doesn’t he just get better looking with age? – he was a soccer player until he broke his foot at the age of 14 and had to look elsewhere for his passion. Lucky for us he choose the performing arts after seeing the musical Hair.
At the age of 19 he moved to Madrid to pursue his dream of acting and for the next ten years he worked his way up to stardom in his home country.
In 1992 he made the move to Hollywood where after his appearance in the movie, The Mambo Kings, he had to learn to speak English quickly in order to get more parts.
In 1993 he shot to international stardom in the movie Philadelphia where he played a lover of the lawyer portrayed by Tom Hanks. And the rest as they say is … recorded for posterity!
The masked crusader Zorro was immortalised by the sword buckling Banderas like none other. In fact he was so good at it they decided to do a follow up seven years later. Lucky for Catherine Zeta Jones and all us women who wanted to scratch her eyes out every time he came anywhere near her! :)
Like all good celebrities Mr Banderas has a fragrance! I have no idea what it smells like but if the end result is that you can wrap yourself around his gorgeous neck then I think I need to get me some of that!
But, despite the gorgeous Latin looks, the sexy accent, his loyalty to his wife and daughter, et all, he will always be remembered for the pussycat! I’ll leave you with a quote from the man himself, “I get more attention as the pussycat in Shrek than I ever did as Zorro.”
OK, I lied, I’m not quite done! Couldn’t leave you without some more of him …
Final verdict – hot or not?
